ISO 9001 (Quality)

ISO 9001 sets out the criteria for a quality management system.

Quality Management Systems

It seems like almost every manufacturing/service/public sector organisation in the UK has a quality system structured around ISO 9001!! The only problem is that many of these systems don’t really deliver what was intended. Ok, they may help if the organisation holds UKAS accredited certification, and that lucrative contract is won/maintained, but what do they achieve otherwise? The answer is ‘it depends’.

ISO 9000/9001 Quality

Apologies for that, but it really does depend upon a few simple rules:

  • You must have a simple, straightforward quality manual written in a modern style that your employees can readily adopt
  • It must be written around the way the organisation currently operates, with ‘a few tweaks’ to address any obvious weaknesses

  • The quality system must be fully communicated and discussed with all employees, and fully supported by top management

  • It must generate improvement in quality and efficiency, and address the root cause of problems/complaints/rejects etc. Every single one of these problems results in a profit loss and possibly loss of future business!

  • The system must include quality objectives (i.e. ones that increase customer satisfaction such as ‘On Time & In Full Delivery’, ‘Minimise Lead Time’ etc.)

Quality Management Consultants

You have to remember that your quality system must describe your organisation’s policy, quality controls and processes (sales, purchasing, manufacturing, installation etc.); getting this wrong is a recipe for disaster! Please choose your consultant carefully, it’s one of the most important decisions you will make.

We have helped hundreds of organisations achieve the above over many years, and these range from the ‘2 Man Business’ up to major organisations such as British Gas and NHS. We also provide low cost support packages that including internal auditing, system updating and improvement
